Destilerías Marí Mayans, Thyme liqueur from Ibiza
Frigola, 30% vol.
Frígola is a spirit that is principally made by extracting the aromas of various plants native to the production area, mainly thyme (thymus vulgaris), which are processed through various methods mentioned below.
This liqueur is the result of the perseverance of the distillery's founder, Juan Marí Mayans, and his fondness for herbs in the middle of the last century, which a few years later, in 1880, led to the establishment of Destilerías Marí Mayans. Towards the end of the last century, the marketing of this spirit began, which received significant acceptance, with bibliographic references appearing in the press in the form of gastronomic articles or advertisements. Literary references also appear, such as in the work 'The Heritage of the Dead' by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, which describes the consumption of Frígola as an age-old tradition on the island of Ibiza. Naturally, information continuously appears in brochures about tourism and gastronomy, as well as travel guides about the Pythius islands.
