Bodega Ribas – Wines with 300 Years of Mallorcan Tradition

In the charming village of Consell, in the heart of Mallorca, lies the historic Bodega Ribas – the island’s oldest continuously operating winery and one of the oldest in all of Spain. Founded in 1711, the winery stands for authentic Mallorcan wines that seamlessly combine heritage, craftsmanship, and modernity.

Today, the estate is run by the tenth generation, Araceli and Javier Servera Ribas, who continue the family legacy with passion and a steadfast commitment to exceptional quality.

From Table Wine to International Excellence – A Visionary Transformation

On roughly 55 hectares of vineyards, more than 150,000 vines are cultivated with meticulous handwork. The focus lies on autochthonous Mallorcan grape varieties such as Mantonegro, Gargollassa, and Prensal, which form the foundation of the estate’s authentic red, rosé, and white wines. Production is deliberately limited – around 240,000 bottles per year – ensuring wines known for their elegance, balance, and distinctive personality.

The red wines of Bodega Ribas, especially those made from the Mantonegro grape, impress with depth, structure, and strong character. The white wines crafted from Prensal and Giró offer freshness and subtle minerality, while the rosés capture the Mediterranean lightness that defines the island. The result is a diverse portfolio that continually inspires wine lovers – exclusive, expressive, and unmistakably Mallorcan.

The winery is committed to island-native grape varieties and sustainable production in harmony with nature:

  • Cutting-edge technology supporting sustainable viticulture
  • An annual production of 240,000 bottles, striking a balance between artisanal quality and economic efficiency
  • Use of autochthonous varieties such as Mantonegro and Prensal Blanc, alongside international grapes like Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot
  • Aging of red wines in French and American oak barrels for up to 12 months
  • A strong commitment to reviving almost extinct Mallorcan grape varieties

The Wines of Bodega Ribas

The Ribas winery produces a range of unique wines that reflect the unmistakable character of the island:

Ribas Negre: 55% Mantonegro, 35% Syrah, 10% Merlot
Ribas Cabrera: 80% Mantonegro, 20% Syrah

White Wines:

Ribas Sió Blanc: 40% Prensal Blanc, 29% Giró Ros, 31% Viognier
Ribas Sióneta Blanc Dulce: 100% small-berried Muscat

Rosé Wines:
Ribas Rosat: 83% Mantonegro, 17% Callet

Two wines exemplify the signature style of Bodega Ribas:

Sió Negre 2019 – “The Mediterranean Rebel”

Sió Negre 2019 combines the indigenous Mantonegro grape with powerful Syrah to create an expressive and character-driven cuvée. In the glass, it reveals a deep bigarreau-cherry red with a garnet rim. The nose is intense and complex, offering aromas of black fruits complemented by spicy notes of vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa, and a hint of balsam. On the palate, it impresses with balanced structure, juicy freshness, and delicate balsamic nuances. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels — 5% in new American oak and 95% in new and second-year French oak.

Ribas Blanc 2024 – “The Fresh One”

Ribas Blanc 2024 embodies pure freshness and elegance. In the glass, it shows a pale yellow color with bright green reflections. The nose reveals delicate aromas of pear, apple, and quince, complemented by subtle floral notes such as orange blossom. On the palate, it is lively, youthful, and well-balanced, with a fresh opening and nuances of lemon, pear, and a hint of white flowers. This cuvée, made from 91% Prensal Blanc and 9% Giró Ros, delights with its lightness, elegance, and clear, fruity character.
