Flor de Sal from Mallorca, salt from Mallorca
Spicy Flor de Sal
Salt - more than just a seasoning
Flor de Sal d’Es Trenc Picante combines the complex flavor of Flor de Sal d’Es Trenc Natural with the Mallorcan paprika variety Tap de Corti, which is deeply rooted in the culture and culinary identity of the island. The spicy flavor is perfect for marinades, BBQ dishes, egg dishes, fresh cheese and spicy dips.
Traditionally, Tap de Cortí is an important ingredient in the Mallorcan spreadable sausage Sobrasada. There, the paprika powder is responsible for the typical red-orange color and serves as a natural preservative due to its high vitamin C content. However, for a long time, the Tap de Cortí paprika was forgotten and almost extinct. It wasn't until 2010 that it was successfully revived through a re-cultivation project by Slow Food Baleares activists. Following a seed multiplication program, 16,000 plants were cultivated for the first time in a pilot project with several organic farmers on the island.
